The Lie by Karla Sorensen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Rewarding and Swoony, this Heartwarming Romance will Leave you Smiling
What you need to know about “The Lie”:
✔ Enemies to Lovers but also,
✔ Friends to Lovers
✔ Dual Point of View
✔ Faith Pierson, daughter of Washington Wolves owner, runs a charitable foundation
✔ Dominic Walker, football player with a bad reputation
✔ Forced Proximity
✔ Complete Standalone
✔ Sports Romance
✔ Carries on from Washington Wolves and Ward Sisters series
Dominic Walker is a football player with a reputation for losing his temper. He’s just been traded to the Washington Wolves and he gets in trouble with owner Allie Sutton-Pierson (The Bombshell Effect, Washington Wolves #1) Allie demands that, as punishment, he help out her daughter Faith with her charitable foundation, Team Sutton.
What neither Dominic nor Faith knows is that they have been online friends for the last three years. When they face off in person they push each other’s buttons. Faith’s number one rule is that she doesn’t date football players, no matter how gorgeous or brooding.
On the day they meet it happens to be the anniversary of the death of Dominic’s little sister, Ivy. He’s still battling through his grief and it turns to anger a lot of the time,
Faith: “This guy doesn’t just have a chip on his shoulder. He’s carrying around an entire mountain.”
Dominic makes a lot of assumptions about Faith because her family is wealthy but Faith is a genuine, big hearted, hard-working woman.
Dominic and Faith have a crackling tension between them. The book is both enemies / friends to lovers and grumpy / sunshine as well as a little forced proximity. All wonderful tropes when done right as they are in “The Lie”.
Dominic: “in an instant, I had the bone deep certainty that when we kissed, she’d rock me to my core.”
Karla Sorensen puts so much detail and heart into her books that it gives them real emotional depth and weight. Everything has an extra layer of realism – you feel closer to her characters.
I loved that this book carries on from both the Washington Wolves and Ward Sisters series but you don’t really need to have read them to understand what’s happening in “The Lie”.
Dominic and Faith’s romance is so swoony and romantic that I found myself smiling along with the early dates of their love story. It’s almost insta-love but they’ve also had a relationship for three years online, so it treads a line and I think it does it well.
Dominic: “She was the kind of girl you wrecked your life over. Because as long as she was in it, even the carnage left behind would be better than just about any life without her.”
I really loved all the mutual respect displayed between the characters and particularly Faith’s self respect and knowledge of her value.
The Washington Wolves are that fictional team that is almost the American equivalent of Ted Lasso’s (other kind of football team) in their sense of family, the values they have, and their love for one another.
“The Lie” will sweep you up in its romance and maybe make you cry a little bit. It’s a gorgeous story and I highly recommend it.

Synopsis
Rule number 1 for the team owner’s daughter? Don’t date the players.
Especially not hotheaded tight ends with tattoos and impulse control problems.
That’s why Dominic Walker is completely off my radar. Sort of.
Babysitting the team troublemaker when he’s forced to volunteer for the foundation where I work means I
can’t exactly avoid him.
I wish I had though. Because once I get to know Dominic, it’s almost impossible to ignore the feelings he
brings out in me.
Pretty soon, I’m breaking all my rules. I just have to hope he doesn’t break my heart in the process.

Meet Karla Sorensen:
Well, let’s see … I’m a wife and a mother. If the things that I write bring a smile to someone’s face, then I’ve done my job. I am obsessed with Outlander (both the books and the show). I’m almost exclusively a romance reader, which means some people will never consider me a literary snob. If I could meet one historical figure, it would be Jane Austen. I received my Bachelors in Public Relations and worked in health care marketing before I had my babies. I hate Twitter. I do it, but I hate it. Also, if you want to get on my good side, bring me wine and I’ll love you forever.
