Small Town Hero by Olivia Hayle

Coming May 20!

My new boss is my best friendโ€™s older brother and the golden boy of Paradise Shores. Me? I’m the misfit single mom who never wanted to fit in…

Being forced to move back to my hometown after a decade away is embarrassing, but Iโ€™ll do anything to protect my little girl. Iโ€™ll even wait tables at the elite Yacht Clubโ€ฆ now owned by the boy I once had a huge crush on. Heโ€™s grown up and claimed his rightful place as King of Paradise Shores.

Parker Marchand was a star athlete and professional sailor who never looked at me twice. Heโ€™s strong and steady, everything my abusive ex wasn’t, but I’m a struggling single mom and professional screw-up. What could we possibly have in common?

But Parker doesn’t believe in no win situations. He wants to be my knight in shining armor. His plan: Charm my daughter. Take me sailing. Out to dinner…and into his bed.
Make me forget everyone but him.

The man Iโ€™ve always wanted is within reach, but I’ve been burned too many times to trust again. Parker has a brilliant future and Iโ€™m running from my past.

Everyone knows knights in shining armor aren’t real, and Iโ€™m too old to believe in fairy tales. Even if Parker is making it hard not to…ย

My Review

Small Town Hero by Olivia Hayle

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After ten years away, Jamie Moraine has returned to Paradise Shores. The last few years have not been kind. She’s a little broken and fragile. When Jamie gets a job waitressing at the yacht club, the new owner is revealed to be her estranged best friend’s brother, Parker Marchand. Parker sees that Jamie is not the same rebellious hothead that she used to be. He wonders what exactly happened to her. The reader takes a journey with Jamie as she becomes closer to Parker and really continues to grow into herself with a newfound confidence and freedom.

I loved this book. It’s a perfect summer read. I felt the beauty of Paradise, the seashore, the boats, the people. It’s exactly what I was looking for in a summer read. It had a sufficient amount of angst but didn’t make me sob.

Olivia Hayle wrote about the situation with Jamie, her daughter and her ex with a lot of deftness. Verbal abuse in a domestic situation is terrible to experience and leaves scars. It changes what a person feels and believes about oneself. Small Town Hero allowed the reader to see that in Jamie and experience her emergence as someone who is healing and learning to love herself again with the support of Parker and the people around her.

Parker is a dream of a book boyfriend. He’s so supportive of Jamie and allows her to learn who she is again. I loved the glimpses we get of Jamie and Parker when they were in high school.

I’ve read one of the previous books in the series and I found this very easy to understand. It’s not necessary to read the previous books but I really enjoyed the previous book in the series about Rhys Marchand.

This was a very satisfying read and I recommend it to everyone looking for a story about healing and new love that helps you bury your demons and find yourself.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
