Many thanks to NetGalley, Montlake Romance, and Karina Halle for an ARC in exchange for an honest book review of โDisavowโ by Karina Halle (The Dumonts, Book 3). My thoughts and opinions are 100% my own and independent of receiving an advance copy.
Synopsis
โFrom New York Times bestselling author Karina Halle comes a seductive novel of riches, romance, and redemption.
In the Dumont fashion empire, no heir has a reputation as decadent, arrogant, and ruthless as that of Pascal Dumont. Every transgression, an indecent pleasure. Every woman, a conquest. And none is more challenging than his new personal assistant, Gabrielle Caron. Sheโs defiant, alluring, and a mystery Pascal canโt wait to solve.
A former family servant and daughter of the head maid, Gabrielleโs returned as suddenly as she left eight years ago. No longer an awkward teen, the ethereal young beauty has amassed a wealth of resolve. Sheโll need it. In hire to the devilishly charming scion, sheโs come back for one reason only. And she dare not whisper why.
But as the nights grow more intimate at the Dumont maison, Gabrielle realizes that the last man she believed in is the one man she can trust with her secrets. For Pascal, falling in love means more than his own redemption. It could mean saving Gabrielleโs very life as they confront a dark and scandalous pastโฆtogether.โ
Review
Wow. What an incredible book. Karina Halle has redeemed Pascal Dumont, wrapped up a three-book series with a nail-biting tale of suspense and done it all while giving us a beautiful romance with a backdrop of Paris and Mallorca. I was positive I was not going to like Pascal. How could I after all the nefarious deeds he performed in Discretion and Disown?
I donโt know why I ever doubt Karina Halle: Pascal Dumontโs story of redemption is a bold and honest epic master class in how to redeem a villain. Gabrielle is a fierce and strong but vulnerable character. She’s definitely Pascal’s equal in every way. She is able to make Pascal take a look at his life and see things for what they truly are. There are a lot of twists that I was not expecting. Itโs great when that happens. I donโt want to give too much away. The ending is everything you want it to be for this series. Pascal actually made me cry.
I think heโs actually now my favorite character in the whole series. I really was not expecting that when I was first introduced to him in Discretion. Brava to Karina Halle!
I highly recommend this book and this series to everyone who is a fan of romance, suspense, mystery, murder, travel, exotic locations, family tales, decadence and love.
